Jonatan Christie
Leonardus Jonatan Christie (born 15 September 1997) is an Indonesian badminton player specializing in the singles discipline affiliated with the Tangkas Specs club. He won the men's singles title at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games and at the 2018 Asian Games. Christie was part of Indonesia's winning team at the 2020 Thomas Cup. His father played a big role in his career in badminton.
Jonathan was introduced to badminton by his father since childhood. He started playing badminton when he was 6 years old. Previously, he also played other sports, basketball and football. However, his father wanted him to focus on badminton. Since then, he began to seriously pursue badminton. Both in school and out of school. Jonathan also trains at the Taurus club. The result of hard training, he obtained a number of trophies from various tournaments. In 2008 became Jonathan's year. At the age of 11, he won 7 trophies at the DKI, national and international level championships. He even won a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Elementary School Student Olympiad, Jakarta, 2008 For these achievements, of course, making the nation proud, Jonatan Christie received the Satya Lencana award from the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2009. A number of awards he won did not make Jonathan complacent. He continues to train and wants to have achievements like his world badminton idol Lin Dan. Year after year, he won. One of them, he won the Asian Junior Champion U-15 Ichiba, Japan, 2010. As for his senior title, he won the first time at the 2013 International Challenge event in Indonesia. At that time he was still relatively young, 15 years. Even so, his name started to become a public discussion when he participated in the 2015 Indonesia Open. At that time he made it into the quarter-finals. His handsome face adds to Jontan's popularity in the eyes of women who are fascinated when they see his actions. Even though he is still young, he has strengthened the National Team several times in the Sudirman Cup, SEA Games, and Thomas Uber Cup. In 2015, Jojo participated in the national team squad in the Sudirman Cup and was part of the national team that won the 2015 SEA Games gold. He was also part of the 2016 Thomas-Uber Cup team. As his flying hours grew, Jonathan's game grew and matured. He became Indonesia's mainstay player at the 2017 SEA Games Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He also donated a gold medal in the men's singles.
